| The Base Drop-in Centre Opens |
|
The centre was dedicated on Friday 12th January by the moderator of the Presbyterian general assembly, the Right rev. Dr. David Clarke. Invited guests from the project and the community were praised for their vision in identifying the need and the problems of the young people in the area. The drop-in centre has been in the planning for over two and a half years and was ready for opening on Friday 19th January. The logo, "'The Base' foundation for living" was designed with the help of young people by outreach coordinator John Blair. John, along with volunteers have been out and about in the area identifying the problems for the young people. They have been making themselves known and promoting the drop-in centre so that young people can come in off the streets and chat to trained volunteers who will support them in personal and social development.
On Sunday evening a thanksgiving praise service preceded the viewing of 'The Base'. At the service John thanked the co-ordinators of the Lambeg Project for their courage and foresight in this new venture. He thanked all those who supported the project in prayer, in time and financially. |
